Officer Raymond "Ray" W. Absolon, Sr., DSN 0009, was originally hired by the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department as a Civilian Clerk # 3, on May 23, 1955, and assigned to the 2nd District. On July 1, 1956, he was promoted to Clerk # 2 and remained in that capacity until September 16, 1958, when his job classification was changed to a Printer Trainee, and he remained at the 2nd District station. On August 24, 1959, he received his commission and entered the Police Academy. After graduating from the academy, Officer Absolon's first uniformed assignment was the 9th District. His other assignments included the 7th, 3rd, 7th, and finally the 1st District. Unfortunately, Officer Absolon died while he was an active-duty employee while he was assigned to the 1st District. He was only 46 years old. Officer Absolon had given 26.13 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. During his career, Officer Absolon was awarded 1 Chief's Letter of Commendation on December 13, 1963, for police work above the call of duty. Officer Absolon's wife, Frances J. Absolon, and four children were left to mourn his death. He is also survived by his mother, Stella Absolon, and was predeceased by his father, Albin Absolon. It should be noted that his son Raymond followed in his father's footsteps and is now a uniformed Sergeant with the Saint Louis County Police Department.
