LEBANON ENTERPRISE OBITUARY - 05/01/1991
Charles Edward Mattingly, 96, New Haven, died at 3:10 p.m., April 23, 1991, in Hodgenville. Formerly of St. Francis, Mattingly was a retired farmer, an Army Veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion Post 121 in Bardstown. Mr. and Mrs. Mattingly would have been married 71 years on April 27, 1991. They were married at St. Francis of Assisi Church on April 27, 1920 by Rev. Nazarius Werner. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Mattingly on June 17, 1924; his mother, Mary Bell Cross Mattingly on March 4, 1928; and his son, Charles Thomas Mattingly on April 27, 1959. Survivors include: his wife, the former Marie Aline Mattingly; two sons, Jim Edd and David Mattingly, both of Lebanon; eight daughters, Dolores Blady and Mrs. Ken "Elaine" Reynolds, both of Louisville, Mrs. George "Borgia" Phillips of Scottdale, Penn., Margie Ballard of Holy Cross; Monica Ballard and Mrs. Jerry "Evelyn" Fenwick, both of Bardstown, Mrs. Harry "Aline" Vittitow of New Haven, and Mrs. Wally "Diane" Devine of Willisburg; one sister, Katie Miles of Loretto; 48 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., April 25, 1991, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Francis, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Kevin J. Bryan officiated, assisted by Deacon Joseph Ray Dant. Active pallbearers were grandsons, Chuck, Lyndal and Eddie Mattingly, Jerry and Mark Ballard, Keith Vittitow, John Devine and Dennis Fenwick. The other grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers. The American Legion Post 121 held a memorial service at the funeral home on April 24 at 7:15 p.m. Prayer services were conducted April 24, 1991, at 6:45 p.m. at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto. They were in charge of the arrangements.
