Berry Mobley Dead
Pioneer Citizen of Heath Springs and Popular Farmer

Heath Springs, Dec 16 - Berry Mobley, 76, a pioneer citizen of this town, died Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock at his residence after an illness of about two months.
Mr. Mobley was born about two miles from the present town of Heath Springs, and his entire life was spent in this immediate vicinity. He was a landowner and planter and until his illness devoted his entire time to his agricultural interests in which he was highly successful. A more popular citizen has never lived in this community and his death is universally mourned. He was always active in any undertaking that meant for the betterment of the social, religious and civic life of his native town which he loved. Sixty years ago he affiliated himself with the Heath Springs Methodist church and was from that date an active member. For many years he served his church as steward and at the time of his death was a member of Baron Lodge No. 261, A.F.M.
Forty-seven years ago he married Miss Callie Robertson, and from this union seven children were born, five of whom survive: Z.L. Mobley of Alexandria, Va., Harvey C. Mobley of Orangeburg, J.M. Mobley, Miss Maude Mobley and Mrs. Lewis A. Duncan of Heath Springs. A son, Branson Mobley, died while in the service of his country during the late war. A daughter, Mrs. Hannah Mobley Duncan, predeceased her father in 1916.
Funeral services were conducted from the residence Friday morning at 11:30 o'clock by the Rev. Warren Ariail of the Heath Springs Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Hoffmyer of Kershaw Methodist church. Burial was at the old Salem cemetery.
