From History of Maries Co, MO by Everett M. King:
"We have even less information about John Barnwell than about his brother; neither the birth, death, or marriage dates of himself and his wife, nor her maiden name are known, nor is the home place more definitely located than that it was 'down the creek' from his brother's home. He is believed to have died comparatively young and to have been survived by four children: Amanda Adaline, who married P. L. Love and spent her entire married life in Phelps County; Mary Elizabeth who married Elbert A. Shipp and moved to Arkansas in 1870, and later to Louisiana; and Frank, of whom we have no record, nor do we know the descendants of the girls.

The fourth child, Samuel Felix Grundy Barnwell, was born November 29, 1851, and died June 16, 1912. His wife was Jerusha Elizabeth Parker (only sister of Levi F., John, and Henry Parker), who was born in Tennessee April 2, 1851, and who died March 28, 1900. Of the nine children born of this marriage the following six are yet living: John of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Robert of Rolla; Dr. James Wesley of Valentine, Arizona; and William, Thomas, and Emma, wife of Frank Newman, in St. Louis. Two children, Charles and Jesse, died in infancy. The remaining child, Amanda, married Isaac Otis, and has been dead a number of years. Her two children are Mrs. Hazel DeSpain of St. Joseph and Mrs. Mabel Talley of St. Louis.

Mary E. Barnwell married E.A. Shipp Aug 11, 1871 in Maries Co, MO Index Book A #68.

From research by Skipp Barnwell: Letter from Robert H. Barnwell to sister, Martha Shipp:

10 June 1858-inform you of the death of our dearly beloved brother John Barnwell, he is no more, he departed this life on 20th May, 1858. He died of consumtion the same disease that Amanda his wife died with the 6th of Oct 1857, as I believe I never have informed you of her death as yet. There is five of his family gone to try the realities of an unknown world to us and five left to plod their way thru this world of trouble. He made his will 2 Mar 1858 to this affect; Marthy the eldest dau [married James N. Lacy] gets 18 acres of land and $100 in money, the balance of the girls gets only 40 and F. Grundy the boy gets $80 including the mantion house and $100 in money extra of the minor heirs for schooling purposes, The remainder to be divided equally between the 4 minor heirs which will be something like $100. The children were put out-not bound, we have the youngest girl Eliza Marinda and Emaline Grissom, Abrah. Loves 4th dau has F.G., Adaline Amanda and Elizabeth. The oldest is only 14 and is yet not found a home as John's request was that Martha should not raise any of them.
