Abijah C. Carothers, son of Josiah and Alice Steddom Carothers was born July 6, 1885, in Lucas County, Ohio, and suddenly departed this life May 15, 1950, aged 64 years, 10 months, and 9 days. He was the last of a family of five children. The most recent one to pass to the Great Beyond was a brother of Circleville, Ohio.
On October 12, 1911, he was united in marriage to Clara Norris. To this union ws born seven children, five sons and two daughters. Two sons, Walter and Robert died in infancy.
Mr. Carothers or "Biga"as he was known by his friends, was an employee of the Greenville Gravel Co. for 24 years. He then moved onto a farm near Savona where he resided at the time of his death.
In his youth he developed a great liking for the great out doors and found much enjoyment in fishing, hunting and trapping.His delight also was to work with saw and hammer and his hands were accustomed wielding the tools of a metal-smith.
For the past 34 years he was a member of the Fort Black Chapter of the Masonic lodge of New Madison.
He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his wife Clara, 3 sons, Max of Savona; Joe and Harold at home; two daughters, Edna Schlosser, Greenville R. R. 1 and Margery Harris of Hollansburg; also eight grandchildren, three nephew, three nieces, besides a wild circle of friends.
