Virginia Mae Elwonger, 80, of Falls City, NE, passed away February 4, 2010 at Falls City. She was born May 23, 1929 at Preston, NE to the late Leslie and Anna (Deckinger) Bippes.

On April 5, 1955 she married Clifford D. Elwonger at Immanuel United Methodist Church at Falls City.

Virginia graduated from Falls City High School in 1947 and received a one year Teacher's Certificate at Peru State Teacher's College and attended 4 summers at Peru to renew her Teacher's Certificate. She taught six years in lower elementary grades; three years at Preston and then three years in rural schools, teaching all eight grades at District 50, northeast of Falls City. Virginia lived with her parents until she was married and the couple established their home on a farm west of Salem and moved into Falls City in l956. Mr. and Mrs. Elwonger were Church Custodians for forty years from 1957-1997. She was President of the United Methodist Women; President three times for PTA; taught Sunday school for many years and was Church organist & pianist for several years and sang in the Church Choir. She was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Church Women, Falls City.

Virginia is survived by her husband Clifford of Falls City, son, Martin and his wife Jerri of Falls City, daughters, Katherine Elwonger of Falls City, Mary Lunsford and her husband Tom of Falls City, brother, Kenneth Bippes and his wife Glenda of Falls City, sister, Marjean Werner of Falls City, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Theta Dame officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.

The family will received friends on Sunday from 3-4:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
