Services were held at the First Christian Church for John Luther Gadberry officiated by Rev. Bedford Smith, assisted by Rev. W.R. Cooper.

Olney has sustained a loss of one of the most valuable citizens who has given his life to civic activities, religious duties and the kindness offered to their fellow man.

Gadberry was a charter member of the Olney First Christian Church. He served many years as a Sunday School Superintendent and was a faithful member of the Church for the rest of his life.

He was a believer in education and served on the school board for many years.

He married Miss Matilda Avery in 1896 at Wynewood, Indian Territory [now Oklahoma]. To this union were born five children: Alma, Hubert, Ernest, Ruby and Verlyn, all survive except Ernest who died in 1919.

John Gadberry brought his family to Young County in November of 1906 and settled 2-12/ miles southeast of Olney.

Survived by two brothers - Edward Gadberry of California and Alfred Gadberry of New Mexico; three sisters - Mrs. Addie Turner of Maysvile, OK, Mrs. Pearl Turner of Maysville, OK, Mrs. Alice Nichols of Canton, OK; one grandchild - Beverlyan Gadberry. None of his brothers and sisters were able to attend the funeral.

Pallbearers were: Dock Willard, Claud Harrison, L.M. Holt, H.L. Leberman, Willie Stowe and H.E. Crawford.
