SHAFTSBURY - Wesley L. "Wes" Bump, 87, died Feb. 18, 2003, at Centers for Living & Rehabilitation.

He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Arlington, the son of Hawley and Gwendolyn (Hayes) Bump.

He married Flora Russell on Dec. 25, 1942, in Bennington.

Mr. Bump worked at Slades Paper Mill in North Bennington, and at Thurbers Oldsmobile Dealership and Garage as a mechanic for 40 years.

He was an honorary member of the Bennington County Sheriffs Department, having served as constable for the town of Shaftsbury for many years. He was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks 567 and longtime member of the Shaftsbury Fire Department.

He enjoyed traveling and camping.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Arthur Kingdon, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will take place in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bennington County or Bennington Area Home Health Agency, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

The following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home today to conduct their services: Bennington County Sheriff's Department at 6 p.m.; Bennington Lodge of Elks 567 at 6:15 p.m.; and the Shaftsbury Fire Department at 6:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
