Mother dies April 11

Mrs. R. O. (Lucy) Clark of Estherville, 79, died Monday, April 11, at the Holy Family Hospital there. Mrs Clark was the mother of Mrs. Jacob Flier of Spirit Lake.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clark took place Thursday afternoon, April 14, at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville, and burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in the family plot. Mrs. Clark was a longtime resident of Estherville."

Mrs. R.O. Clark Dies; Rites Set
Mrs. R.O. (Lucy) Clark, 79, resident of Estherville for the past 50 years, died last night about 7:15 at Holy Family Hospital after having been hospitalized for almost three weeks. Death was attributed to a heart condition.

Lucy Anna Michels was born April 23 [?] 1880, on a farm near Beaver in Boone County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Michels. She received her education in the Boone County schools.

On April 8, 1903, she was united in marriage to Ralph Otto Clark in the Methodist parsonage at Dows City. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Clark lived for a few years at Arlon [?] and in Emmetsburg for a short time before moving to Estherville in 1910.

After their arrival here Mr. Clark was manager of the A.D. Root Lumber Company for many years. That company is now the Harker Lumber Company. He also served as city clerk for a number of years. Mr. Clark died August 10, 1939.

Mrs. Clark was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the local Stitch Club for some 30 years, having been a charter member.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jake (Velma) Flier of Spirit Lake; a son, Orval Clark of Estherville; four grandchildren, Leslie Carson, Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Donald (Lucy Ann) Oleson, Regal, Minn., and Mary and Martha Clark of this city; also one sister, Mrs. Amanda Matlock of Ames.

Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are to be Thursday at 2 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James K. Lyon officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from this evening until Thursday noon at which time the body is to be taken to the church to lie in state until the time of the services. The casket will not be opened following the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 12, 1960)
