*The death date of 10 Nov 1844 is given by his second wife Mira Cone Gates in her pension application for bounty land, due her by his service in the War of 1812, in which she states his death date was November 10, 1844. Asa's second wife Mira (Cone) Gates is granted a pension by the court for 120 acres, for Asa's military service as a Sergeant in the War of 1812 in Captain Arron Palmer's Co., 2nd Squadron, 6th Reg't New York Mil. Asa was the son of Abraham and Susanna (Whittemore) Gates. He married 1st Mary Roberson. She died October 20, 1817. He married 2nd on October 14, 1825, Mira Cone. She filed for bounty land, using his War of 1812 service record and was granted 120 acres of land. Asa and Mary (Roberson) Gates were the parents of Eliza Laura who married Orlin Colburn.
