James Hugh Corbitt, 73, of Tinton Falls, passed away Friday, January 29, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born and raised in Alabama he has been a resident of Tinton Falls for 30 years. Jim is a graduate of Auburn University receiving a degree in Chemical Engineering.

He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi fraternities at Auburn. He worked for Exxon Corporation for 34 years before retiring in 1992. He is a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Middletown and AIChE- American Institute of Chemical Engineers. In 1954 he played in the Junior Rose Bowl Championship team for Hinds Junior College.

He is predeceased by his parents Emory and Virginia Bryant Corbitt, and his brother Michael Emory Corbitt. Surviving is his wife; Patricia Gastrell Corbitt, two daughters; Cynthia Ann Corbitt and Judith Corbitt Matthew, two sons; Michael Gregory Corbitt and David Bruce Matthew, two grandchildren; David James Matthew and Samantha Ann Matthew. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina.

Visitations will be on Wednesday, February 3, from 2 -4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4, at the Christ Episcopal Church, Middletown. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers; donations in his memory may be made to: The Auburn University School of Engineering, Office Development, 1320 Shelby Center, Auburn, Alabama 36849.
