Constance grew up in Silverton and worked picking hops and other produce to buy school clothes during the Great Depression. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1941. Constance then attended Willamette University for two years. Connie also became a welder at Swan Island shipyards where she helped build "Victory Ships" while earning money to enter the School of Nursing at the University of Oregon Medical School. They married in 1950, and settled in East county. While a homemaker, she was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, Campfire and Girl Scouts. She returned to part-time work as an RN in the 1970s into the 1980s, and then retired permanently. As the years passed, Connie was active in the Association of University Women, OHSU School of Nursing Alumni Association, was a member of Precinct Committee Women, the Republican Women's Club and League of Women Voters. She was also a longtime member of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church. Connie loved reading books and doing the crossword puzzles in ink in the daily newspapers. She also was preceded in death by her three brothers and three sisters, James Reed, Faye Costabile, George Reed, Frankie Davis, Irene Blauvelt and Fred Reed. Connie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Cooper of Portland; son, Michael J. Redlin of Wood Village; and grandchildren, Gabriel and Shane Cooper.
