EMERSON, CHARLES BENTON age 83 prominent Ida resident & retired farmer died at 1:40 p. m. Wednesday October 4th, 1961 in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital after being a patient there for two days. Last rites were held Friday of last week. Born at Ida on September 16, 1878, he was a son of the late Henry Emerson & Sarah Elizabeth Dorrough Emerson. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. On December 24, 1902 he was united in marriage with Miss Ella Maye Woodward who preceded him in death. Mr. Emerson is survived by two daughters, Miss Anna Emerson of Luray & Mrs. Don ‘Rebecca' Fruchey of California. Four sons, Ralph Emerson of Luray, Russell Emerson of Washington, DC., Harry Emerson of Annandale, Va. & William Emerson of Richmond. One brother, Edward B. Emerson of Shenandoah also survives. Ten grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive. Three children & one sister, Mrs. James ‘Katie' Boyd are deceased. The Rev. Ralph H. Ebert officiated at the last rites at two o'clock Friday afternoon, October 6th in the chapel of the Bradley Funeral Home. Interment was in the family cemetery. Active pallbearers were Rufus Smith, Carl Somers, Claude Smith, Clarence Somers, Lawrence Sours, Carl Sours, John Smith & William Varner. Carrying the floral tributes were Elsie Price, Eula Carter, Evelyn Woodward, Mary Jane Good, Mary Emerson, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Woodward, Virgil Woodward, George Baggarly, Alfred Good, Clyde Emerson, Robert Cave & Winfield Moyer. Those attending from a distance were Mr. & Mrs. Harry Woodward of Manassas, Va., Herbert Woodward of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. J. D. Robinson, Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Robinson & daughter & Mrs. W. W.
