Lafollette, William B., P.O. Carpentersville, Farmer, Section 13; was born October 25, 1829, in this township [Franklin], on Section 3, and married in Montgomery County, Ind., on December 27, 1851, Mary Ann, daughter of George E. and Elizabeth Kyle, the former from Virginia, the latter from Kentucky; settled in Montgomery County about 1830, and both died there, the mother when her daughter was 12 years old, the father, July 14, 1872; Mrs. Lafollette was born December 25, 1833, and has had eleven children--George E., born November 12, 1852; John W., April 3, 1854; Martha E., December 28, 1859; Myrta E., March 19, 1862; Charles A., July 18, 1864; Letta, November 8, 1866; Anna G., March 17, 1869; Robert E. Lee, June 5, 1871, and Orestes, June 15, 1873. To the industry of himself and family, Mr. Lafollette owes his farm of eighty-six acres of well-improved land. In politics is a Democrat. His father, John, born in Hardin County, Ky., came to this county in 1827. Married Betsy Bruce, the daughter of Maj. William Bruce, founder of Bruceville, Knox Co., Ind. Entered ninety acres of land in Section 3 of this township; disposed of them, and entered 207 acres in this and Jackson Townships, where he still resides. In early life his means were very limited, having had to borrow money to procure his first piece of land; but, by industry and economy has now a comfortable place. He has been a minister in the Baptist Church about thirty-five years. His wife is still living, both having reached their seventy-fifth year.
