Robert Friend was born in Oxford, MS on 23 June 1873. His parents were Bernhardt (Freund) Friend and Antoinette Kneuper; the 1880 census lists them as "B.B. and Minnie." He had 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Robert attended the University of Mississippi and moved with his family to St. Louis, MO in the late 1800's. Robert owned his own wholesale grocery business in St. Louis. In 1899 he married Ellen "Ella" Kempland, and in 1912 their daughter, Eleanor Roberta, was born. In 1922 the family moved to Los Angeles but fairly soon went on to San Diego. Around 1930 they went to Phoenix, AZ for a couple of years but eventually moved back to Los Angeles. At this time Robert went into business with a brother (Ernest A.-Memorial #47489123). Robert's sister, Helena, is also buried here - Memorial #47489125. In 1934 Robert contracted pneumonia and died two weeks later on 25 December.
