"Garland, Texas - - Virgil Cavender, for more than 20 years manager of the Chapman Ranch near Garland, died of a heart attack Thursday in his Garland home. He was 56.

Mr. Cavender was born near Waxahachie in Ellis County. He had lived in Garland only for the last three months.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, E. W. Cavender and Herbert Cavender of Dallas; a daughter, Miss Barbara Cavender of Dallas; his stepmother, Mrs. Kate Cavender of Midlothian, Ellis County; two half-brothers, Leon Cavender of Garland and Doyle Wayne Cavender of Midlothian, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Friday in the First Methodist Church in Garland. Dr. Alden Gannett and the Rev. Clark Calvert will officiate. Burial will be in the Mills Cemetery in Garland.

Pallbearers will be Leroy Dewberry, Roy Burke, Woodrow Dewberry, Woodrow Sommers, Tom Cecil Groves and J. W. Wiggins."
