Marvin F. Rice

Marvin F. Rice, age 83, of Butler, MO passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House of kidney failure. Marvin is now, happily, in the arms of the Lord and his beloved wife, Dulcie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.

Marvin was born October 14, 1926 in Sheldon, MO, the son of Earl August and Leona Mae (Moore) Rice. He found the love of his life and married Dulcie Gordon on November 21, 1943. They had two children, Terry and Susie. Marvin worked for Deems John Deere in Lamar and in 1954 transferred to that same company in Butler. He later owned and operated the Champlin Service Station and very proudly worked beside his son, Terry, and together they built up a long list of satisfied customers.

When Terry left for the Army, Marvin sold the station and moved on to the car business, selling cars for 25 years, most of that time with Butler Motors. When he retired, he and Dulcie enjoyed camping with family and friends and spoiling grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Ohio Street United Methodist Church in Butler.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Dulcie, three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his two children, Terry Rice and wife, Sandy of Butler, MO and Susie King and husband, Phil of Lee's Summit, MO; one brother, Clinton Rice, Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Cameron Rice, Butler, MO; four granddaughters, Tina Miller and Keri Lysaght of Lee's Summit, MO and Tara Vermillion of Adrian, MO, Kacie Robey of Butler, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emma and Noah Miller, Bailey Lysaght, Drake and Daylyn Vermillion, Zayne and Bryleigh Robey and a host of extended family and friends.

Marvin loved to be with family and enjoyed going to any activities where he could watch his grandchildren and you might even hear him brag "a little" about them.

The family would like to give special thank you's to the great nurses and staff on 4 East of St. Joseph Hospital, and wonderful nurses and staff of Kansas City Hospice House, for their care and compassion to all of us.
