Alta Grey Block Fletcher, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at her home in Nederland, Texas. She was born on the family farm in Port Neches, the present day location of Oak Bluff Memorial Park, on August 17, 1930.

In 1935, the Block family moved to Nederland where she resided until her death. She graduated from Nederland High School and then went on to serve as the City Secretary-Tax Assessor Collector for the City of Nederland for thirty-five years. In 1949, Alta married Charles Ray Fletcher and together they established a home and family.

Upon retirement, Alta Grey pursued her love of farming, gardening and traveling. Together, Charles Ray and Alta Grey, maintained a185-acre farm near Kirbyville, traveled around the country in the motor home and helped raise the grandbabies. The last few years of her life, she became known as "The Flower Lady" by many in her neighborhood. Her green thumb enabled her to grow anything. Her yard abounded in all things beautiful. She knew what every plant was named and could tell you where every plant came from.

The love Alta Grey had for her family was never-ending. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Theodore and Jane Block; eleven brothers and sisters; and by her husband, Charles Ray who passed away in 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Posey and Joanna Porter of Nederland, Texas; and by one son, Rex Fletcher of Pineland, Texas. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren, Melissa Edwards and her husband, Brent, Amanda Posey, Rusty Fletcher, Dusty Fletcher, and Hannah Porter; as well as two great-grandchildren, Jessika and Jayme Edwards. Finally, very dear to her heart, were numerous nieces and nephews who she loved and enjoyed so much.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Fletcher, Dusty Fletcher, Bill Block, Danny Reneau, Kevin Reneau, Keith Reneau, and Zeke Grimes. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bob Block and Barry Block.
