Rabbi Jerome Mark was the first Rabbi at Temple Beth-El in Knoxville, TN. In 1925 during the trial of John Thomas Scopes, Sr, he, along with Rev. Charles Potter, Rev. Fred W. Hagan, and Rev. Daniel Moses Welch, petitioned the Court holding the trial of Scopes in Dayton, TN, to permit non-fundamentalist ministers to participate in the court ritual of beginning court morning with a prayer.
