WILLIAM BARKER, SR.
1923 - 2010

Mr. William Barker, Sr., age 86, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, with his family by his side. Mr. Barker was born on June 9, 1923 in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated from Pensacola High School and in 1941 he joined the American Merchant Marine being promoted to Engineer Officer in 1943. He is a WWII combat veteran and concluded a second career of 46 years with Lykes Bros. Steamship Company in New Orleans, LA. He retired to Pensacola, Florida in 1992.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur Barker, Sr. and Kathleen Wheat Barker; his sons, William Barker, Jr. and Martin Barker; and grandson, Zachary Daniel Zwiep.
Mr. Barker is survived by his daughters, Victoria Ann Zwiep, Rhonda Barker Price (G. Hill), Linda Suzanne Barker; brother, Richard Barker (Geraldine); sister, Carolyn Barker Marshall (Peter); sister-in-law, Virginia Watson Barker; a loving companion, Marion Dearman; two daughters-in-law, Jill Jensen Barker and Kendra Barker Fitzgerald; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorials be made in his name to The American Diabetes Association .
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Msgr. Raymond Mullins officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME SOUTH, 100 Beverly Parkway, is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 4 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30.
