Silas Allen who was born September 19, 1842 in Grant Co., Indiana joined Company H of the 87th Indiana Infantry July 26, 1862 at the age of 20 years, serving the Northern cause, three years was discharged May 10, 1865 as a Sargent.
Silas married Matilda Burgess and was a framer in the Elkhart area of Polk County in Iowa. HE died Jan 16, 1911 at Spokane, Washington but was buried in the Ora Labor Cemetery in Crocker Twp., in Polk County, Iowa.
