Sarah M. (Downey) Wood was the daughter of Abraham Downey and Matha "Patsy" Elizabeth White.

She was born in Warren County, Kentucky 15 October, 1831 and died 28 August, 1925 near the Oakland Comunity, Laclede County, Missouri.

Sarah was the wife of George Washington "G. W." Wood.They were married 1855 in Warren County, Kentucky. They came with family and friends to Laclede County about 1856-1857 and settled near the Oakland community not far from present day Lebanon, Missouri.

Sarah Downey Wood and George W. Wood were the parents of 11 children: Martha, Winnie, Carter, Jane, Thomas, Walker, Eli, Charley, Abraham, Alice and Susan Wood.

Sarah M. Downey Wood was a loving mother and grandmother and friend to many. She was of the Christian faith, and along with her husband G.W. were charter members of the Antioch Baptist Church at Oakland. They are buried in the Antioch Cemetery behind the Antioch Church.
