Irene A. Dawkins, 90, died Friday, October 20, 1995, at Aurora Australis Lodge.
Services will be at 10 am. Monday, Oct. 23, at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C.I. Puckett officiating and Rev. Bo Bankston assisting. Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery with Gunter & Peel Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
Born in Lamar County, Ala. to the lat Luther and Annie Lois Phillips Atkins, she had been a resident of Columbus since 1942. She was a homemaker and attended Wooodland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Hedge, and two sons, Jackie and Hollis Dawkins. She was the widow of the late will Dawkins Sr.
Survivors include six sons, Joe Dawkins, Leamon Dawkins, Douglas Dawkins and Lynn Dawkins, all of Columbus, W.J. Dawkins Jr. of LaMesa, N.M., and Clyde Dawkins of Higginson, Ark.; three daughters, Hazel Stanley of Columbus, Elowese Decker of West Point and Mildred Roselle of Moreland, Id.; 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Butch Dawkins, David Dawkins, Gary Dawkins, Lance Dawkins, Roger Dawkins, Bill Decker, Ed Williamson and Fred Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers are Paul Dawkins, Steve Dawkins, Terry Dawkins, Albert Dawkins, Clay roselle, Kenneth Stanley, Todd Stanley, Bill Swartz, Kelly Wallace, Ricky Kolb, the staff of Aurora Australis Lodge and Dr. Thomas Sheffield.
