Graveside services for Doris Umphries Key Cardwell, 86 of Thomasville, will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Carolina Street. Elder Tony Haire will officiate. Mrs. Cardwell passed away January 29th at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Born August 4, 1923 in Toombs County, she was the daughter of the late Ray Vaughn Umphries, Sr. and Jessie Dean Umphries. She was married to Wallace L. Cardwell, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Cardwell was of the Baptist faith. She was for many years the proud owner and operator of Fairway Beauty Shop - a dream made possible for her with the help of her dear friend and mentor - the late Lorene Hall.

Survivors include children, Jerry Burns, Julian Key and wife Ying Ma, and Karen Key Horne and husband Cecil; grandchildren include Ricky Burns, James Burns, Sherri Medina, Sunny Jo Burns, Michael Burns, Donna Burns, Derek Burns, Denise Ottinger, Adrienne Delaforce, Julianne Key Radney, Steven Cao, John Horne, Jeffry Horne, and Kristin Taheri; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Cardwell was preceded in death by a son, Sonny Burns and brothers Ray Umphries, Jr., S. L.. Umphries, and W.L. Umphries.
