WARSAW — Francis H. Badertscher, 84, Woodspoint No.24, North Manchester, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Miller's Merry Manor.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1919, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Orville and Mary (Hauenstein) Badertscher. He married Doris Lee on Dec. 12, 1943, in Bluffton, Ind. She died on Oct. 3, 1997.

He owned and operated the Big Four Elevator in North Manchester, and after retirement he worked as a teller at Indiana Lawrence Bank. He received a Bachelor's degree in math and physical education from Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a Purple Heart recipient.

He was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post No.286. He was a former member of the North Manchester Rotary Club.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Caryl) Straiger, Claypool; a son, Richard (Kathi Coon) Badertscher, Indianapolis; and five grandchildren, Steve (Stephanie) Straiger, Carmel, Mrs. Scott (Suzanne) Nelson, Claypool, and Julie Badertscher, Ann Badertscher and Karen Coon, all of Indianapolis.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester. Pastor Fred Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the North Manchester Shepherd's Center.
