Charles "Charlie" Howard Cannon, 94, of Gretna, Louisiana went to meet his Lord on Tuesday July 17, 2012 at Ochsner Medical Center in Gretna, Louisiana surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 10, 1918 in Ruby, Louisiana. He grew up in the Ruby and Alexandria area.

He honorably served his country in World War II as a BAR gunner of the 121st Infantry, Co. A. He, along with his comrades stormed the beach of Normandy on July 4th, 1944, and is a recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war he returned to Alexandria and graduated from Louisiana Business College and worked in the Alexandria area as a bookkeeper. He married Sue Terrell and they moved to Gretna in 1965 where he worked in the oilfield, retiring at age 80. He loved to fish, hunt and keep everyone smiling, but the love of his life was his wife and family. He was a gentle soul, and loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Penn Cannon Sr., and Laura Goff Cannon, his siblings, Ted Cannon, Tressie Cannon Aymond, Ruth Cannon Aymond, Buddy Cannon, James Cannon, Martin Penn Cannon, Jr., and his beloved wife of 54 years, Sue Terrell Cannon.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughter Alisa Cannon DeSoto and her husband Daniel Sr., daughter, Carolyn Ivy Jackson and her husband David, grandchildren, Daniel Paul DeSoto Jr., Melanie Ivy Layssard and her husband Wayne, Charles "Jason" Ivy and his wife Jessica, and great grandson Evan Layssard.

Join his family in the celebration of his life on Saturday July 21, 2012 at the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jim Thomasee officiating. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Hemphill Star Cemetery, Gardner, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Paul DeSoto, Sr., Daniel Paul DeSoto Jr., Charles "Jason" Ivy, Paul "Wayne" Layssard, David Jackson, Ricky McAlister and Donald Aymond.
