*For the Civil War, Jacob Fouts (and brother John) enlisted as a Private in Company A, 7th Battalion, NC Cavalry. He enlisted on 7 Jul 1862 as a resident of Macon County, aged 33. On 3 Aug 1863 he was transferred to Company E, 65th Regiment NC Troops. He and John were captured at Jacksboro, Tennessee, on 27 Aug 1863 and confined at Camp Chase, Ohio. He was transferred to Rock Island, Illinois on 22 Jan 1864. He was released after taking the oath of allegiaNCe on 16 Jun 1865.
By ca 1868, Jacob and family moved over to Polk County, Tennessee where his sister Nellie Fouts Waters had been living. They were listed there on the 1870 census.
