Lucinda was the daughter of Wilson Stewart and Mary Ann Coombs Tennery. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas and Jane Wilson Tennery of eastern Tennessee. She married Edgar Snearly in Jasper County, Illinois on March 4, 1858. Catherine was described as being very religious, stern, and thrifty. She was a small woman about 5 ft. tall with a narrow waist, dark eyes, dark hair and rosy cheeks. When her husband joined the Union army and left to fight in the Civil War, she was left at home with two small sons. At one time during the war, raiders stole all her meat and killed the two hunting dogs.
