ARCHDALE -Mr. Carlyle Lester Peters Jr., 66, of Archdale passed away July 11, 2008 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born February 8, 1942 in Raleigh to Carlyle and Mary Elizabeth Gatlin Peters. Mr. Peters had owned and operated C. & V. Promotions and Fund Raisers. Mr. Peters and his brothers, Larry and Donald had spent several years at Mills Home Baptist Orphanage in Thomasville after the death of their father before moving to High Point to live with their step-father, W.J. Shelley. Mr. Peters had been active in the Boy Scouts of America and had received the Eagle Scout Award. He had been in the Order of the Arrow and had been Scout Master of Troop No. 38 in the High Point and Archdale area. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his step-father, W.J. Shelley, his step-mother, Edna Roberts Shelley, a sister, Linda Sue Shelley Ostroski and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Holland Harris. On November 30, 1962 Mr. Peters was married to Virginia Holland Peters who survives of the residence. Also surviving are a son, Thomas Peters of Archdale, brothers, W. Larry Peters and wife, Charlene of Greensboro, Donald Peters of Reykjavik, Iceland, Steven Shelley and wife, Martha and Kenneth Shelley, all of High Point and Don Roberts and wife, Jan of Fairburn, Georgia, two grandchildren, Trevor Peters of Archdale and Julia Peters of High Point, sisters-in-law, Ann Pittman of Holden Beach, Katy Pulaski and husband, Dennis of Archdale and Bernice Kenan and husband, James of Greensboro. Also numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be at 2:30 P.M. Monday in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale by Reverend Douglas Davis. The burial will be private at a later date. A visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com.
