Mary, "Molly" was born in Louisiana, a year after her father returned home from the Civil War. Before she was six years old the family removed to Panola County, Texas. The father, Rufus King Vanderburg, died in 1872, according to information written in a family bible, leaving his wife Margaret with three young children. In 1875 Margaret remarried and half sister, Maggie was born. By 1890's the three Vanderburg siblings had married three Parker siblings and traveled north to Indian Territory to start new homes. One of the Vanderburg men (John Q.) died in 1898 and Mollie and her husband Alonzo had lost a child (Oda in 1893). Alonzo and Mary Parker went back to Carthage with the Vanderburg widow (Texana Ida). This move was made by wagon with three adults and six children! Then in 1900 Alonzo died and Mollie had lost another son (Otto,1911) in a drowning accident. Mollie cared for her Mother in her home until Margaret died, 1914. Efforts to locate Mollie's grave in the Carthage Cemetery have not been successful, however, both the obit and the death certificate shows she was buried there. The newspaper account of her death, called Mary a "pioneer resident of Panola County".
