FORMER IDABEL BOY IS KILLED IN ROAD MISHAP

Kenneth Eugene Holt, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Holt Route 5, Box 375, Texarkana, Texas, was killed instantly about 10:15 a. m. Friday when he ran into the path of a car three miles west of Nash on Highway 82.

Witnesses told Texas Highway PatrolmanJames Hinsley that the boy was walking along the highway with other children when a barking dog ran toward them. The youth dashed into the highway behind a large westbound truck and into the path of the eastbound auto, officers said. Three witnesses said the driver could not have avoided hitting him.

Justice of the Peace W. G. Sorsby, who held an inquest at the scene, ruled that the boy was killed as the result of an unavoidable accident.

Patrolman Hinsley said that the driver of the car, Raymond Caldwell, 35, of New Boston, Texas, was traveling about 55 miles per hour when the mishap occurred. The motorist was so badly shaken, the officer said, he was taken home and put to bed.

The youth was returning to his home from the Leary post office where he had gone to mail a letter for his parents when the accident occurred. His home was just a short distance from the scene of the fatal mishap.

The youngster, born in Talihina February 10, 1943, resided in Idabel until about a year ago. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Monday at Kullituklo church with Rev, Isaac James officiating.

Arrangements and burial in Kullituklo cemetery were under direction of Coffey funeral home.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Mason and Bert Holt; two sisters, Margaret and Mona Ruth Holt; one half-brother, Douglas Maytubbie, and one half-sister, Lorene Wilson, all of the home, and a grandmother, Mrs. Kitsey Watson, Pickens.
