"William Watts Blanton, 61, a prominent Paris attorney, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday at his home at 379 Stoner Avenue after a long illness. He had been seriously ill for several weeks. A native of Richmond, he was the son of the late Dr. Harry Martin Blanton and Ethel Chenault Watts Blanton. Blanton was Paris city attorney from 1928 to 1930 and was Paris police judge from 1930 to 1940. He served terms as state representative and state senator in the Kentucky General Assembly and was formerly a director for the Kentucky Department of Motor Transportation. He had been Bourbon County Democratic Party chairman since 1956. He had been a member of the Bradley and Blanton law firm for more than 30 years, beginning his career as an attorney with the law firm of Emmett Dickson. His grandfather, Lindsay Hughes Blanton, was former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church here. Educated in Richmond public schools he was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Paris Lodge No. 2 F&AM, a member and past president of the Paris Rotary Club, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church...Bearers will be Craig Bradley Jr., V.A. Bradley Jr. James Shropshire. Clyde Singleton, Robert Burnett, Lockhart Spears, D.C. Parrish, Buckner Hinkle and Joe Allen. Honorary bearers will be members of the Bourbon County Bar Association and Judge William B. Ardery, Charles Cox, Harry Mitchell, Charlton Clay, Charles S. Spears, Edwin K. Thomas and Orie Smith..."
