Leona Melissa Hocker

Leona Melissa, daughter of Henry and Sarah (Weber) Williams was born Feb 2, 1862 in Schuyler County and departed this life Dec. 3, 1951 in a hospital in Kirksville, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 1 day.

She was united in marriage to Lafayette B. Hocker in Schuyler County on Nov 14, 1882 and to this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons and two daughters, five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Elnora Miller of Kirksville, Mrs. A.C. (Lillian) Jackman, Queen City, and Mrs. Virgil (Flossie) Goldsby, Greentop with whom she made her home the past twenty years. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

She united with the Fabius Baptist church at an early age, later transferring her membership to the Downing Baptist church where she remained a faithful member to the time of her passing.

She was a good wife, and mother, a very thrifty, industrious homemaker. One who was loved by her friends and neighbors.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters and grandchildren, who loved her so very much.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 5 a two o"clock at the Coffey Church with Rev. P.M. Lind of Queen City officiating. Interment in the Coffey cemetery. The Dee Riley Funeral Home of Kirksville had charge of the services.

Music: pianist, Mrs. Lulu Rife; quartette: Mrs. Bessie Gerwig, Mrs. Neva Lewis, Harry, West, Dee Rife.

Bearers: Herman Hocker, Lafe Hocker, Franklin Alexander, Luell Barker, Ellis Barker, Jesse Barker. Honorary Bearers: Elmer Barker, Robert Fraker, Paul Miller, Harold Miller.
