He was born the son of Elmer E. and Nancy Louise (Dunsmoore) Wells on April 6, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Merrill loved his family. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean (Nellis) Wells in 1993.
He is survived by his children: Mike and wife Penny Menasco of Bryan, TX, Jeff League of Kansas, and Kay Dodson of Wells; a brother, Dale Wells of Iowa; a sister, Edith May Sage of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and special friend Dot Callaway of Bryan, TX.
Merrill and his very close companion Dot Callaway of Bryan, TX shared many wonderful memories. They had been together for the past decade. Dot and Merrill took fun trips together and shared many meals. Dot loved him dearly and her life will not be the same without him.
Funeral services were held August 30, 2005, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Hite officiating. Burial was in the Richland Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Richland Baptist Church Cemetery and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO 63555.
