From the book Our Family the Holemans) Pearl was engaged to marry Dee Little, who was killed when his horse ran under a tree limb, striking him in the head/ This occured around 1908. 2 yrs later, she married Allen Smallwook, who was a local school teacher. Around 1915, Smallwood was convicted of horse stealing, and left the area. Pearl was pregnant with her 1st child, and had to take in washing to make ends meet. Mae Smith Jeffries tells a story of going around the neighborhood with a small wagon picking up and delivering clothes.
In later years, a story in the family is that Pearl Smith Smallwood, was contacted by the law officials, that Allen Smallwood was killed somewhere in southern Oklahoma or Texas, and asked if she would come and identify him. Jeff Smith told her that he would go, and if he was not dead, he would be when he got there.Pearl Smallwood and Albert Annis were married in Hughes County, Oklahoma on December 24, 1920 (Book 7 Page 530).
