Barbara Anne Wyatt died peacefully in her sleep at Timberview Care Center from complication of a 40-year struggle with the detrimental effects of multiple sclerosis.
She was born at home outside of Florence, the youngest of three children to Harry and Hulda S. (Weinert) Worthylake.
Barbara grew up in Toledo and graduated valedictorian from Newport High School in 1952. She married Neil A. Wyatt in 1953. Together they had five children. They divorced in 1959.
After her divorce, she returned to Oregon State University where she received her Bachelors in Education in 1964. She moved her family to Lebanon that same year and began her teaching career at Fairview School. She later moved to the Queen Anne School District and taught sixth grade until her disability forced her retirement in 1976.
She loved her family and all of those who cared for her in her later years. She enjoyed gardening, entomology, reading and the ocean. Teaching was her passion and she shared her gift at every opportunity.
She is greatly loved and will be missed by her children Anne, Andy, Matt, Bill and Patty Wyatt. She is also survived by her brother Dean Worthylake, her grandchildren Aubrie Jones, Ryan Valencia, John and Gabriel Wyatt, her great-grandchildren Keagan and Noah Wyatt, Courtney Jones and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister Pat Huntington.
A memorial service is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 1890 S. Second St., Lebanon.
At the family's request, contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nmss.com.
