Melvin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He attended Coweta High School until the 11th grade. Melvin and Lucille Frazier were united in marriage on July 15, 1937 in Coweta, Oklahoma. He worked as a water superintendant for the City of Coweta for 10 years until he retired in 1969. Melvin also had worked as a farmer for 10 years. He was a member of the Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta. Melvin was a Volunteer Fireman for the City of Coweta for 25 years. His hobbies included fishing, doing yard work, traveling, and camping. Melvin will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Myrna Ussery and Norma Davis, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Rev. Steve Lamberson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Family visitation will be on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home.
