F4U Corsair fighter pilot in World War II, transport pilot in Korea and helicopter pilot and squadron commander in the Vietnam conflict. Last surviving pilot with VMF-222, "The Flying Deuces." Flew 88 combat missions and won two Distinguished Frying Cross medals. Two kills and a half-credit on a kill in the Battle of the Coral Sea. Also had 11 Air Medals, and four battle stars. Married to well-known southern big band singer Jean Arnold.
