Edward Martin served in the South Carolina Militia, rising to the rank of Captain. He fought at the battles of King's Mountain and Hanging Rock, serving under the command of Col. Richard Winn.
In 1780, Captain Edward Martin married the former Miss Margaret Olive McClure, daughter of James and Mary (Gaston) McClure of Fishing Creek in Chester County South Carolina. They had four children. After Margaret died in 1789, Edward married Mary Jane Aiken, daughter of James and Elizabeth (Reid) Aiken of Winnsboro. Edward and Mary Jane had ten children.
Captain Edward Martin died on Christmas Eve 24th December 1813. He is buried in the Martin-Aiken cemetery near his parents and Aiken in-laws.
