Charles Henry Bell, one of Fayetteville's wealthy residents and most prominent citizens, died here this morning after an illness dating from last September.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning from Central Presbyterian Church in which he was an elder and contributing member.
Rev. M.L. Gillespie will officiate. Pallbearers have not been announced.
Mr. Bell was born in Sebastian County, Arkansas, December 31, 1852. He was in the mercantile business in Waldron, Scott County, Arkansas until 1896 when he retired and moved here where he built a handsome home. During his residence here he built several business houses including Lewis Brothers and the Ozark Grocer Company buildings. He was a stock holder in the McIlroy bank and had large timber holdings in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, where he engaged in the mill business.
He was a student at the University of Arkansas in 1872-73.
He is survived by his wife, three children: Carl Bell, a son, and two daughters, Mrs. W.H. Beauchamp of this place, and Mrs. H.S. McKenna of Poteau, Okla.; by two brothers, J.C. and C.C. Bell of Fort Worth, Texas, and a half-sister, Mrs. Byron Yaden, also of Fort Worth.
