Laura M. Atkinson, age 64, a resident of South Western Avenue, Portland, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She recently has been staying at her daughter's home in Muncie. Laura was born on December 16, 1945, in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Edward Lee and Ruth (Barnard) Butler. She attended Dunkirk High School. She was a member of the Harvest Time Bible Church, west of Bryant. Laura married Phillip D. Atkinson on December 27, 1963, and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2004.
Survivors include:
1 daughter: Tina Weaver (husband Jim) – rural Muncie, Indiana
3 sisters: Nancy McCarter (husband Chris) – Dunkirk, Indiana
Carol Unger (husband Ron) – Harvest, Alabama
Ruth Crefasi – Muncie, Indiana

Funeral services for Laura Atkinson will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Ruble officiating. Burial will take place in the Antioch Cemetery, southeast of Portland.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer
(Laura M. Butler Atkinson (Portland, Jay County, IN) was my sister. Her memorial, which I imagine came from an obit, states she was born in Lawrenceburg, KY. Laura was born in Frankfort. Also, our mother's maiden name was Barnard rather than Bernard
