When a small child she moved with her parents to a farm in Taylor county, Ia., where she grew to womanhood.

Mrs Johnston and her companion in life lived on a farm in the Oak Hill community near Gravity for many years. Here the church provided the spiritual guidance for this home as together they received from the soil of Mother Earth the results of their daily efforts, always sharing with family, friends and neighbors the blessing of helpfulness as all were welcome at any time in their home.
