Julia cooked in large amounts for her large family but her specialty was homemade soup and Hasenferrer (sour rabbitt and potatoe dumplings). Julia never denied her husband his recreation of hunting and fishing. He had a club house for get-away weekends at Winfield, MO and later the 60 acre farm at Beaufort, MO. She went along with him in the heat of the summer and cold of winter to the farm. She loved her husband, children and 40 grandchildren very much and was always eager to help; watching the grandchildren. Rocking a baby was her delight. She loved to have her children and grandchildren around her. She was the mother hen type woman. She was a beautiful young woman, large in later years, medium height and wore her hair bobbed, cut short, no curls. She had a beautiful complexion and always looked contented. Her children loved and respected her and were obedient at home and school to please her and not cause her to be upset or disappointed in them.
