Born in Creighton, Nebraska. His mother died when he and his brother were young boys and his father remarried. The step-mother was mean to the boys and they ran away from home and were taken in by a farmer. When times got hard the farmer couldn't keep both boys so he kept the younger, and William E. left to find work. We understand that some years later William and Lee reunited and traveled up into Canada driving wild horses. William returned to the U.S. for what was to be a brief time and lost contact with his brother. They never saw each other again and William's family is still trying to locate descendants.

William E. "Red" Wood married his second wife, Dora Lavern Brook March 24, 1920, in Pawhuska, Osage Co., Oklahoma. Children from this marriage are: Doris Lavern (stillborn); Roland Lamar; Florence Lorraine; Velma Francine; William Casey (died at approximately 4 months; and Donald Lee.

William E. Wood died Sunday at the Pawnee Municipal Hospital in Pawnee,Oklahoma, from pneumonia. He had been moved there from the Good Samaritan Rest Home in Pawnee. The funeral was Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hunsaker Funeral Home in Fairfax, OK. Internment was in the Fairfax Cemetery.
