Beatrice "Bea" Hoover, age 92 of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at her home in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Alfred and Pearl (Spencer) Brizendine on March 18, 1917 in Monroe County near Georgetown, Iowa. She graduated from the Centerville Community School in 1934.

On January 7, 1939, Bea was united in marriage to Herbert C. Hoover in Nashua, Iowa. She first taught school for over 4 years in Appanoose County and later would own a children's shop in Centerville for over 20 years. After her retirement, they moved to Florida in 1979 until Herbert's death in 1982. Bea returned back to Centerville and became a resident at the Continental Hotel in 2001. She was an active member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church for many years. One of her greatest joys was being an avid Quiltmaker. She was always working on her next quilt and each one had over 1000 pieces of fabric. Bea has quilted over 150 quilts and each had a purpose. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxillary and worked on many their quilts.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert C. Hoover on October 29, 1982; a infant son; and a sister, Alberta Benz.

Bea is survived by her daughter, Neva Mackey and her husband, Jerome of Logan, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael Mackey and his wife, Shelley of Lemon Grove, California, Janet Christianson and her husband, Chad of Port Richey, Florida and Anne Coffman and her husband, Creig of Omaha, Nebraska; six great grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 10am at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kenneth Mehrhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 2 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials can be made to either the Drake Avenue Christian Church or to Drake Public Library and can be left at the funeral home.
