John King was the son of Henry "Harry" King and Bettie Brown King. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, serving in Tennessee. He served in General Andrew Jackson's Cavalry under General Coffey and was in all the engagements with the Creeks under General Jackson (With Davy Crockett and Sam Houston). In the Battle Of Horseshoe Bend, John was wounded in a cavalry charge, but set his horse, until the battle was over and fought with the front rank. He married Elizabeth Horden. They moved to Titus County, Texas in 1851 and settled on Horse Creek.
