Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Peters Swayze, 73, of Monroe, LA will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Swartz with Rev. Jeff Smart officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Swayze passed away Friday, January 22, 2010, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She has worked at Southern Hardware and Supply Co. for over fifty years in the Accounting Department. She worked for 3 generations of the Marx family. Mrs. Swayze loved her work and did not want to retire. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Swartz.
Mrs. Swayze was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rev. and Mrs. W. I. Peters; brothers, Cecil Ardis Peters and C. J. Peters; sisters, Lois Maxine Edgington and Glenda Osborne.
Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-three years, Max Swayze, Sr.; son, Max Swayze, Jr. and wife Holly; daughter, Rhonda Plumlee and husband Barry; eight grandchildren, Brian Bassil and wife Natalie, Casey Horrell and husband T. J., Brooke Bassil, Keith Stagg, Kristen Wilson and husband Stephen, Brittany Curry, Miranda Plumlee, and Malorie Ballard; and five great grandchildren, Tracey Lee Horrell, Michael Horrell, Cayden Wilson, Madison Plumlee, and Colton Beavers.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Swartz, 1983 Hwy 139, Monroe, LA 71203.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Glenwood Regional Medical Center for the care of Mrs. Swayze.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the First Baptist Church of Swartz.
