Thomas M. Harpster, 61, of East Waterford, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 24, 1940, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Virginia (Wagner) Harpster.

His wife, Lois Susan (Hockenberry) Harpster, survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Sharon Smith, Philadelphia, Pamela Carter, Strodes Mills, Susan Cisney and Paula Swartz, East Waterford, and a son, Thomas Elliot, Lewistown; a brother, Richard Harpster, Cherry Valley, CA, a sister, Vivian Hoskin, York; 12 grandchildren; and four half sisters and two half brothers.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.

A Methodist by faith, he held memberships in American Legion Post 90, VFW Post 7011, Fame Fire Co. No. 2, City Hook & Ladder #14, East Derry Fire Co. No. 1, Junction Fire Co., all of Lewistown, Eagles Club of Yeagertown, and Teamsters Union, Local 776, Harrisburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

His funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church, East Waterford, with Rev. Donald Walters officiating. Interment was in the East Waterford Cemetery. There was no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to: Thomas Harpster Burial Fund, c/o Susie Harpster, P.O. Box 6, East Waterford, PA 17021.
