TO RETURN BODY OF HAROLD RUDICEL HERE FOR BURIAL
The body of Sgt. Harold Devon Rudicel, 22, is being returned to this country aboard the U.S. Army transport Barney Kirschbaum, from St. Avold National Cemetery, France.
Young Rudicel, the son of Alvah and Esther (Cox) Rudicel, Wabash, was killed in Germany three days after the Battle of the Bulge. According to information received by his parents after his death, he had gone to the aid of his wounded lead scout as their squad moved forward to join their platoon when ordered to take a German road block.
At first he was buried in Germany by the Germans and later his body was moved to the National Cemetery at Avold.
Sgt. Rudicel entered the service on Dec. 5, 1942 and received his training at Camp Chaffee, Ark., after which he took special training for nine months at the University of Delaware. He was shipped overses on Oct. 12, 1944 to France, was attached to the nineteenth armored infantry battalion, fourteenth armored division. The outfit was with the Seventh Army at the time Sgt. Rudicel was killed on Dec. 19, 1944.
The decedent was born in Wabash Sept. 29, 1922, attended Wabash schools and was graduated from Wabash High School in 1939. He attended business college in Fort Wayne for two years and was employed with his father before entering the service.
His parents are the only survivors.
The Hoover-Miner Funeral Home will arrange services, which will be military, when the body arrives in Wabash. The funeral home will be notified about five days before the actual arrival. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery.
