SHREVEPORT, LA - Dorothy Eva Jernigan Hefley, a resident of Shreveport, departed this world on January 12, 1999, in Glendale, California. Mrs. Hefley was a native of Texarkana, Texas, born to William and Eva Nolan Jernigan on August 10, 1914. In 1940 she married Edwin Joseph Hefley in Shreveport, where they spent most of their lives thereafter.

Dorothy was a homemaker and also worked as a secretary in several local businesses. She was a member of St. John Berchmans Parish and a charter member of the Circle Ten ladies group at St. John's. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed music, antiques, and gourmet cooking, especially baking beautiful special occasion cakes.

Mrs. Hefley was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. She will be greatly missed by her loving children, Dorothy and Jose Perez of Glendale, California; Edwin J. "Buddy" Hefley of Tucumcari, New Mexico; Mary Lu and Will White of Lacey, Washington; and Sharon D. Hefley of Lafayette, Louisiana; as well as by her six grandchildren; Dolores Schutzman, Angela, Jose, and Frank Perez, all of Glendale; Stephanie and Steven Hefley of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and one great granddaughter, Camille Schutzman, of Glendale.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 18, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 6 p.m. at Osborn. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Hefley will be offered at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, followed by entombment at Forest Park West Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Schumpert Grace Home for hospice care or to the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.
